We added a new segment to our meetings called The Ten Minute Tute. Stolen directly from the Kansas City Guild.
Originally Tamara our Treasure was going to do a demo on these rad pin cushions (I don't have a photo, but it's a Heather Bailley pattern that can be found here) however, an old friend was in town and she couldn't make it.
So I sat down at nap time and figured out how to make a few different styles of pin cushions to demonstrate.

I found that there were no "quilted" pin cushions.
So, that's what I made.
Taking super basic pin cushions and just quilting them!
Orange one is my favorite.
The vintage fabrics one is pretty cute too.
The rad pink one was for Megan. The minute I started it, I knew it was hers.
The mason jar, the one that was suppose to be easy? That took the longest. Stupid thing. I hated that one. The rest, were easy and fun.
If you'd like to make the square one, the tutorial I used is here.
Orange one was a quilt as you go, a good tutorial is here.
If you want to make the 2 inch square one, I might suggest using Elizabeth's tutorial here. I did not and I regret it.
The mason jar? Well, you can find that one by your self. :-)
(Just a note: When I do a quilt as I go block I don't put a backing on it. I've never had issues with the batting catching, I however do make sure to clean my machine on a regular basis! Have fun.)
Those are really damn cute.
ReplyDeleteI love them, especially the mason jar;)
ReplyDeleteI love mine! It's sitting on my cutting/prep table and I use it every day. I'm so glad the orange one went to a good home, because it was completely awesome too.
ReplyDelete... and you made all this during nap time? They are so cute, I think I like the pink and beige one best.
