I have this printed out and stuck on one of my pin boards...it helps when I feel paralysed about sharing/showing something that someone may have made before, or that is inspired by seeing something made by someone else way-back-when, and on and on!!! It's such a good reminder!

I have to comment! I jump around a bit because I'm irritated but here goes: I have my blog to inspire and share (because that's how I see other peoples blogs). If you copy something I made it makes me happy. I copy people all the time (remember when I emailed you for the band aid quilt info??). I like to give credit when I make something from looking at someone else's stuff. You have ot give credit!! I'm not sure I've ever said "this is my own design". I have issues with people who do but that's for another time! And why does it have to be "copied"? Why can't if be called "inspired"? So you made it the same colors and the exact same thing I made? I probably got it from someone else! I could go on and on. I know just how you feel and I want to say that you should never ever be afraid to make something for fear you're "copying" someone else. If you don't want to be copied then don't put it on the Internet! That's what I say to anyone who says they are being copied. Now being copied and making money off it is a whole nother area! But then again, how can you prove someone copied you? It's almost all been done before. One last thing. A year or two ago I saw on someones blog where they claimed Anthropologie totally ripped them off regarding a display in a store. Are you kidding me? I was so grossed out by this blogger. Ok, I'm done! Thanks for listening:) You inspire me even if you got the idea from someone else!

Inspiration always needs a starting point so yes, in that respect nothing is original. Yet everything we make is unique only to the person who makes it! Even if it's just the imperfections!

Of course, 'stealing' is precisely that .. so we should always acknowledge the sources of that inspiration ... Anything less is lazy and mean spirited.

I am inspired by so much that I see in my bloggy travels .. it might be colour and tone from one place, shape or technique from another ... I don't think I ever out and out copy anything stitch for stitch ... but I definitely 'interpret' with attribution!

I've thought about this also. I think we are inspired by so much everyday it's hard to imagine anything is totally original. The only time a problem should arrise is when images or direct copies are made and claimed to be your own.

i know what you mean, sometimes i'm afraid to make stuff too, in case someone pointed fingers. but i hope i'd reply "really? you're the 1st person who ever thought of making xxx?" i think it's all about the choices you make, what colors, fabrics, etc. that make it yours.
